In Situ: Francesca dePasquale
Wednesday, April 6th @ 7pm
Growing up in a family of distinguished musicians, the origin of musicianship for Francesca dePasquale was dictated through the language of the works heard in her home and in the concert halls. Her self-titled debut album takes works associated with this language, such as the Bach Partita no. 2 in D minor and Schumann Intermezzo, and contrasts them against works that represent her artistic exploration, including Messiaen Theme and Variations, Bartók Rhapsody no. 1, and a new commission from composer Paola Prestini for violin and electronics.

DÜNYA Presents: Othello In The Seraglio
Friday, April 8th 10pm
Othello in the Seraglio, a uniquely powerful “coffeehouse opera,” tells an age-old story of passionate love and murderous jealousy, of a black eunuch at the 17th century Ottoman Court who rises to power and riches, only to come to a tragic end. The stunning score, by Boston composer and Grammy nominee Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol, weaves together Italian Baroque and Turkish sources with his own newly-composed music into a tapestry of uncanny beauty – performed on European period instruments and traditional Turkish instruments by an ensemble of 12 instrumentalists, singers and a dramatic storyteller. You have never heard anything like this before – because nothing like it has existed until now.
