Electroacoustic composers/performers Lesley Flanigan, Christopher Tignor, and Tristan Perich present their own unique visions for combining the human and bespoke electromagnetic instruments. In an evening of three distinct solo sets, these artists explore the space between us and the machines that extend our reach. Flanigan will perform "Subtonalities," a piece featuring two sine-wave oscillators generating low-frequency tones that she will meticulously fashion into slow-moving harmonies combined with pitches from her own voice. Tignor will debut new emotionally rich pieces for violin, percussion, and his custom-built interactive live processing platform, a new extended instrument that expands the expressive possibilities of solo instrumental performance. Perich will perform a special New York solo premiere of "Tone Patterns," cascading harmonies of 1-bit tones into dense binary interference patterns, generated by Perich’s custom-built audio hardware.
Lesley Flanigan is inspired by the physicality of sound. She builds her own instruments using minimal electronics, microphones and speakers, and performs them alongside traditional instrumentation that often includes her own voice, creating a kind of physical electronic music that embraces both the transparency and residue of process. Christopher Tignor is a composer, violinist, lecturer, and software engineer whose scores and unique focus on live, performance-based electroacoustic practice has won acclaim within both the classical and experimental communities across 9 LPs on the Western Vinyl and New Albion record labels. Tristan Perich’s work is inspired by the aesthetic simplicity of math, physics and code. The Wire describes his compositions as "an austere meeting of electronic and organic." The New York Times called his latest circuit album, Noise Patterns, “techno for silicon-based life forms.”
