Originally performed at National Sawdust in spring 2019, The New Immigrant Experience includes a documentary drawn from Salles' interviews with DREAMers, captured by filmmaker Fernanda Faya, accompanied by original music by Salles which uses their speech cadences, and key words from these compelling and moving conversations, as its primary source material.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

The work of jazz composer, activist, and 2018 Guggenheim Fellow Felipe Salles is defined by his immigrant identity — he emigrated from Brazil to the US in 1995 — and is driven by a commitment to combat racist efforts to dehumanize immigrants, fueled by ignorance and fear, by harnessing the power of the arts.

It’s an emotional audiovisual journey that combines the power of a live big band show and the dramatic landscape of a film soundtrack.

The New Immigrant Experience at National Sawdust is made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered in Kings County by Brooklyn Arts Council.
