Zan Emerson (they/them) serves as the Digital Content Producer and Designer at the Brooklyn music venue and performing arts nonprofit National Sawdust, where they manage marketing assets, schedules, and output for over 250 shows and initiatives annually.
Zan’s career in the music industry began when they served as the Programming Director at Skidmore College’s radio station, WSPN 91.1FM, while pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art. Their passion for independent music programming lead them to accept a position as the Marketing Coordinator, Box Office Manager, and Designer at the Manhattan venue Le Poisson Rouge in 2010. Since then, they have helped a number of live music organizations establish departmental protocol, manage staff, develop visual branding, and market nearly every genre under the sun.
In addition to their marketing and operational work, Zan is an accomplished graphic designer, having created logos and posters for artists such as The Philip Glass Ensemble, The Antlers, J Spaceman + Kid Millions, and more. For their unique take on bold, minimalist design, Zan was named Village Voice’s “Best Concert Poster Designer” of 2015. A deep believer in both workers’ rights and the life-altering power of music, Zan strives to harness their passion for this line of work, not only to connect art with audiences, but to support and uplift the entire industry both on stage and behind the scenes.
