Corey Chang

Corey Chang, described as “a major composer…of his generation” by The Millbrook Independent, holds awards from ASCAP and The Golden Key Music Festival, as he continues to rise as a figure in the 21st century music scene. His music have been workshopped and performed by the Euclid Quartet, The Da Capo Chamber Players, The National Sawdust Ensemble, Imani Winds, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Arx duo, KOE, the Bard College-Conservatory Orchestra and artists of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the American Modern Ensemble, the JACK Quartet and ARKAI, among many others.    As a pianist, Chang has given the premiere for his solo works “Evening Light,” in Vienna’s Ehrbar Hall at The Prayner Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Arts, “Three Piano Preludes,” at Juilliard’s Paul Hall, and “Field of Shards” as a joint commission by the Hudson Valley Music Circle and the Albany Symphony Orchestra’s American Music Festival in recognition of Joan Tower’s 80th birthday.    Chang holds dual degrees in Composition and Mathematics from Bard College and a Master’s Degree in Composition from The Juilliard School, where he was awarded the Joseph W. Polisi “Artist as Citizen” prize. Chang is currently a doctoral student and Associate Instructor of Composition at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.    Taking a break from his musical activities, Chang enjoys exercising, kung fu, chess and partaking in thoughtful, introspective conversations with anyone he meets!
