Merely mention their names, and indelible images, sounds, and experiences spring forth. These pioneering artists have blazed unexpected, highly individualistic paths, transforming artists and audiences in their wake. Consider Anderson’s provocative and enduring “O Superman,” which catapulted her onto the British pop charts in 1981, or the quiet poetry of her haunting film, The Heart of a Dog (released last year), not to mention the simple spoken word performances to ambitious multi-media productions she’s created along the way. And who could have imagined a performance-art blockbuster – Abramovic’s durational piece, The Artist is Present, lasting more than 700 hours, performed alongside a major retrospective of her work – enticing more than 850,000 visitors to flock to MoMA in 2010? As these two cultural icons move through the world, they pose questions, transform the ordinary, and simply, dream. On May 1, they sit down for an intimate conversation about… well, whatever they like!
