About the Show
Contemporary Folk
Film composer/singer-songwriter Peter Salett, a “downtown folk legend” (Time Out NY) who has opened for the likes of The Swell Season and They Might Be Giants, performs this wistful song cycle backed by strings and percussion and accompanied by artist Michael Arthur’s evocative, improvised ink illustrations, which unfurl live, projected on a big screen, alongside the music.

Michael Arthur
Michael Arthur is a Brooklyn-based artist who specializes in both drawing the intimate moments of theater, dance and music as well as performing “live drawings”, visually accompanying music and performers with projected, real time illustrations. Influenced by the great cartoonists who used to tour the Vaudeville circuit at the beginning of the 20th century, Michael is exploring new ways to make drawing a performance. He draws mostly in ink without any pencils or rough drafts: each drawing is a live reaction to the moment. Michael’s drawings have appeared at Vanity Fair, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Departures Magazine, NPR, The Huffington Post and many other places. Michael has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub, the Joyce Theatre, La Poisson Rouge, La Jolla Playhouse and with the Indianapolis Symphony.
