About the Show
“I want love, love, love.” The desire of the mythical Ulysses and the desire of the legendary Anaïs Nin. Dutch director Jorinde Keesmaat brings in a U.S. premiere of two distinctive works by Louis Andriessen together in one direction. The rarely performed Odysseus’ Women (1995) for four female voices and synthesizer and the famous Anaïs Nin (2010). Conducted by Neal Goren, we set the story of the colossal figures as we investigate the relationship between archetypal societal patterns and the extraordinary will of the individual. Andriessen’s fascination with prominent women in history form the basis of the two compositions. An encounter between two worlds, a confrontation.
