Music Academy of the West
Presents mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce and pianist Chien-Lin Lu
6pm doors • 7pm show
Mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce and pianist Chien-Lin Lu, winners of the Music Academy of the West’s 2019 Marilyn Horne Song Competition, perform music from across the vocal repertoire alongside Wise Moon, a song cycle that three-time Grammy winner Jennifer Higdon, one of the jurors for the competition, composed expressly for the winners.
Pierce and Lu perform selections from Canteloube’s Chants d’Auvergne, adapted from folk songs from France’s Auvergne region and sung in the local language, Occitan, and Wolf’s Spanisches Liederbuch, settings of Spanish poems with erotic themes. Songs by Britten, Schoenberg, Bolcom, and more round out the program.
