In ritual style, for 10 Friday nights, Latasha Alcindor channelled her past life of Hot 97 mixes and teen nights and broke through.
Teen Nite At Empire (#TNAE), Latasha Alcindor’s new EP is a bashment on wax dedicated to Young Girls who would wild out and to the ones who broke out. The EP channels her childhood anecdotes at Brooklyn’s infamous Empire Skating Rink which was closed down due to the gentrification of its neighborhood. The energy of Teen Nite sets us to reminisce in a new school fashion. #TNAE is a mash up of freestyles and songs influenced by the 2 for $5 bootleg mixtapes.
A part of Latasha’s LALYTES: Where Brooklyn At?! series is an ode to Brooklyn that includes her latest album B(LA)K, followed by #TNAE.
She says, “I think if I just tapped back into the music I grew up loving and let those spirits rap for me, I might bring something back in a new way….so, here it goes.”
