From All-State choirs in high school, to musical theatre, to the University of North Texas jazz program, Melissa McMillan cut her teeth from a young age in a variety of styles. Recently, Melissa has led a busy schedule as an in demand lead and background vocalist in New York City.
She is the regular house singer for “The Jelly” jam session in Brooklyn led by Sylvester Onyejiaka (Prince, Liv Warfield, Ghost Note). As a songwriter, arranger, and band leader, Melissa released her debut album in 2015. With the help of her accomplished band, the EP explored a multitude of genres, blending jazz, R&B, and pop all while emphasizing rich harmonic landscapes and warm layered vocals. Recently, Melissa performed in Mike Doughty’s (Soul Coughing) debut rock opera, “Revelation” at WNYC’s Green Space, was honored to sing the National Anthem at a Brooklyn Nets game, performed on The Today Show with indie-rock band Saint Motel, and has provided background vocals for groups such as Maz (Snarky Puppy), Dynamo, Max Jury, Skip Marley, and many more.
