Rabbit Rabbit is the song-spinning duo of Carla Kihlstedt (violin, voice) and Matthias Bossi (drums, voice, keyboard). Collectively, they are founding members of the iconic bands Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Tin Hat, 2 Foot Yard, Causing a Tiger, The Book of Knots, and Fred Frith’s Cosa Brava.
Between them they have written music for the International Contemporary Ensemble, the Bang on a Can All-stars, the San Francisco Girls Chorus, ROVA Saxophone Quartet and Team Meat. They have played with Tom Waits, Mike Patton, Skeleton Key, Madeleine Peyroux, Tracy Chapman, St. Vincent and Carla Bozulich, and were winners of the 2013 Independent Music Awards.
The songs of Rabbit Rabbit are raw and beautiful, sparse and rich, lighthearted and full of pathos. Drawing on their love of art song, folk song, industrial music, improvised music and heart-wrenching balladry, they will make you dance and cry alternately, and sometimes in quick succession.
For this performance, they will be joined by Jeremy Flower (guitar and electronics), and by Shahzad Ismaily (bass), playing songs from their first three albums, and giving you a sneak peek into the watery world of their new song cycle, Lost City – Songs from a Changing Sea.
