J Hoard

Artist-in-Residence J Hoard, the Brooklyn–based singer and songwriter who won a Grammy Award for his work with Chance the Rapper, shows off the vibrant melodies, lyrical genius, and infectious beats that launched him to international prominence.

He has landed featured spots in music festivals in Canada and Mexico, and has toured with artists ranging from Sonnymoon and Kimbra to Meshell Ndegeocello and Pharoahe Monch.

The line up for this evenings performance will include:

  • Jill Peacock
  • Kamilah
  • J. Hoard & Kid Singapore
  • Jenn Mundia
  • Eleni
  • Vuyo Sotash

Opening artist Kamilah will premiere “Beautiful Boy”, a video shot in her homeland, The Bahamas, featuring a completely Bahamian cast helmed by Director Maria Govan (Queen Sugar, Rain, Play the Devil) and edited by Naima Ramos-Chapman (Random Acts of Flyness, Piu Piu, And Nothing Happened). Both the song (written by Kamilah and Produced by Kamilah and Torna) and video examine toxic masculinity, how it is manifested in young men, particularly men of color, and how internal reflection and viewing softness as a strength can foster emotional intelligence and, ultimately, heal. A special treat for J Hoard’s third concert in his vibrant residency!

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
