The second ever International Anthem NYC summer showcase features three potent ensembles:
Opening the night is drummer/producer Makaya McCraven in his first headlining NYC performance since the New York Times dubbed his last release “Highly Rare” one of The Best Albums of 2017. In addition, McCraven’s also earned a New York Times nod for giving one of The Best Jazz Performances of 2017. For this show, McCraven’s quartet is stacked: with trumpeter Marquis Hill, vibraphonist Joel Ross, and bassist Luke Stewart.
Up second is legendary guitarist Jeff Parker performing material from his International Anthem album The New Breed – an LP which was also selected by the New York Times as one of The Best Albums of the Year in 2016. This will be his first NYC performance since April of 2016, and for this special night the band will feature Josh Johnson on saxophone & synthesizer, Paul Bryan on bass & synthesizer, and Makaya McCraven on drums & synthesizer.
Closing the night is the sensational Philly/NY/DC music collective Irreversible Entanglements, master musicians fresh off of a litany of career milestones: a Times Square performance with Lightning Bolt, a European tour, and being named to over a dozen Best Albums of 2017 lists, including WIRE magazine, NPR, Bandcamp, The Quietus, and Stereogum. As always, the collective on stage features poet Camae Ayewa (aka Moor Mother) on vocals, Keir Neuringer on alto saxophone, Aquiles Navarro on trumpet, Luke Stewart on bass, and Tcheser Holmes on drums.
