In 2012 the world was supposed to end, I was going through an epic break-up, and I began working with Gordon Minette on my debut album Rooms. I wanted to make an orchestral 1950’s disney record like Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella with background vocals and singing birds and flowers. We worked together in the studio for two years. I walked around the city composing songs in my head. Gordon wrote out my melodies and worked tirelessly on arrangements, bringing in string players and harpists and paying them out of his own pocket. We spent almost every day together listening to Pet Sounds and A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night and marvelling at the mystery of recording music.
May 10th will be the celebration of the long anticipated release of Rooms and the first and only concert dedicated to performing the record as close to the original as possible with a full band including strings and clarinet.
