(h)artDrive, the exciting new electric guitar duo, assimilates the iconic sound of electric guitars into the world of contemporary music. Bringing forth a generous, rich and robust musical landscape by only two musicians and twelve strings, (h)artDrive, explores the entire spectrum of sound available to electric guitars and expounds upon it. Nadav Lev and Giacomo Baldelli join forces and together, their virtuosity, versatility and musical depth explode to create an immersive sonic experience that transcends traditional musical and cultural boundaries.
About the Artists
Nadav Lev
Israel native and Andres Segovia Award winner, Nadav Lev, “is one of the greatest and most visionary guitarists working today.” (Sean Hickey) Hailed as “a master, (from) classical to jazz to rock to improvised music,” (Grego Applegate Edwards) Nadav has played to great adulation all over the globe. He recently debuted ‘Double Concerto for Single Guitarist,’ as a world premiere with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and will be touring with Israeli chamber ensemble, Meitar, this fall. Past performances include the Israel Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Marlow Guitar Series, collaborations with Wet Ink Ensemble, ICE, Miranda Cuckson, Rinat Shaham, Mivos Quartet, Rishon LeZion, Raul Jarena, a member of RAM and a founding member of the Lev-Yulzari duo with Remy Yulzari and the Prototip Trio with Avi Avital and Sivan Magen. Classical Guitar Magazine heralds, “Lev is clearly a talented and engagingly musical performer when playing both solo and as a chamber musician. …his stage presence is entirely gracious and personable.”
Nadav can be heard on the Delos label with his latest album release, New Strings Attached, featuring 6 new works dedicated to him by contemporary Israeli composers as well as on his debut album, AZAFEA, featuring the Lev-Yulzari guitar and double bass duo.
Nadav is passionate about expanding the electric guitar repertoire into contemporary music as well as exploring the sound worlds and capabilities of both the classical and electric guitars in all of their forms.
Giacomo Baldelli
Critically noted as “one of the most complete performers of the new generation”, NYC-based guitarist Giacomo Baldelli is focused on exploring works of the 20th century, but also on developing a new 21st century repertoire for guitar. Most recently, he has been interested in expanding the contemporary repertoire for electric guitar.
He is an accomplished soloist and chamber musician, and has performed throughout Europe (Italy, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Poland), as well as the United States. He is a currently a member of the (h)artDrive Duo (with guitarist Nadav Lev), Key-String Duo (with pianist Laura Barger), Kyrinx Duo (with flutist Kaoru Hinata), and has worked extensively with respected musicians Giovanni Mareggini, flute (Italy) and Elitza Demirova, violin (Bulgaria).
From 2006 to 2013 he was a member of Icarus Ensemble, with whom he appeared frequently as a soloist. During that period they were featured in renowned festivals such as the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (Hudderfield, England), Biennale Musica (Venice, Italy), REC/APERTO (Reggio Emilia, Italy), Sincronie (Milan, Italy), and Gaida Festival (Vilnius, Lithuania).
NIDRA, his recent work for electric guitar and video (co-produced with Italian videomakers OOOPStudio”), was noted by The New York Times as “a tour de force for electric guitar and video”.
Mr. Baldelli earned both his Bachelors and Masters degrees (summa cum laude) at Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “A. Peri” in Reggio Emilia (Italy) where he studied with Claudio Piastra. He also completed additional studies with Vladimir Mikulka and Carlos Bonell.
His critically-acclaimed debut CD “Chitarra Italiana del XXI° Secolo” (Bottega Discantica- 2010) includes the first Italian Recording of the masterpiece for electric guitar “Trash TV Trance” by Fausto Romitelli.
