About the Show
Greetings. YOSHIMIO, with whom I’ve been collaborating since 2003 (Flower With No Color/Yoshimi and Yuka), originally started YOA RA as her own solo project. In YOA RA, YOSHIMIO performs facing another drummer – resulting in the two drummers on each side of the stage – and the bass player stands in the middle of the stage facing the audience. She has performed in this format at “Station to Station” and at the Barbican (London) with various members (AYA, Ryan Sawyer, Hisham Bharoocha). This configuration invokes the image of mountains with a circle that floats in between. It is this shape which inspires the sound of the band.
YOSHIMIO has, for this special concert, expanded this triangle and invited me to form a four person circle (it is not a square). A circle so that the energy circulates–a circle in which our performance becomes our ablution.

Opening Act
Tokyo native and long time New Yorker Jaiko Suzuki joins forces with Benoit Cougoulat Guerroué, continuing their partnership which began in the fall of 2015.
Suzuki is also a drummer for the experimental rock band Electroputas (BellyUp). Guerroué, born in the forests of Bretagne, records and performs as “Zun Alak, Carbonic”.
Jacques Le Fringant also makes an appearance from the French radio show Version. Papier describes their sound as “Experimental Bedroom Space Pop”.
Kahimi Karie, the longtime “Queen of Shibuya-kei Pop” in Japan and now frequent collaborator with Jim O’Rourke and Otomo Yoshihide, will also join for this special occasion.
