About the Artist
Friday, June 17th 10pm
Group in Residence, Hess Is More, returns to The National Sawdust for an evening of
100 % live music.
Hess Is More will be in full 8 piece ensemble formation, proudly welcoming the return
of vibraphonist Michael Hanf!
These 8 musicians, with their unique instrumentation and unorthodox arrangements create a very danceable yet at times puzzling concert. Catchy melodies and chant like lyrics can haunt you for days…
Hess Is More started out as an electronic solo project for Danish musician Mikkel Hess. Through 6 albums and various tours and collaborations the project has developed into a full blown Transatlantic Live Music Ensemble, working with a more collective approach. Their latest release “Bearsong / Primate” (Gomma Records) is a celebration of the energy and interplay of the live ensemble – sounding in the borderland between electronic dance music, afrobeat, krautrock and jazz.
Cray Cray Chalant is a percussion group featuring Kenny Wollesen, Dalius Noujo, Tony Scherr, Will Epstein, Briggan Krauss, Jennifer Harris & William Shore.
Kenny Wolleson
Percussionist Kenny Wolleson performed on over 30 recordings during the 1990s and, as the decade progressed, gained increasing renown as a musician of astonishing versatility, skill, and ingenuity. He has recorded and toured with all kinds of musicians, from Tom Waits (Wolleson performs on Waits’ 1993 collaboration with William S. Burroughs, Black Rider), to Sean Lennon, to Ron Sexsmith (Wolleson performs on his second album, Other Songs). A founding member of the New Klezmer Trio, Wolleson is also all over N.Y.C.’s downtown jazz and avant-garde musicians’ recordings, and has been so active as to tour with Bill Frisell and Myra Melford in the same month.
