About this performance
Friday, April 1st 10pm
ALPENGLOW celebrates the release of their debut full-length album Callisto with this special live performance at National Sawdust. In addition to premiering songs off of Callisto, the performance also includes a light installation created by the band that uses different shapes and colors of synchronized light with the music in order to create a holistic light environment that reflects the tone of each musical moment. Callisto also marks the first release for the experimental Chizu Records, a new project from conceptual artist Yoshi Ashi.

Uni Ika Ai
Uni Ika Ai is a Japanese dish that translates as ‘sea urchin squid love’. It is a blending of flavors, an attraction of opposites, working to create something more beautiful together. The project was born out of a desire for improvisation and experimentation, when Peter Lalish (Lucius) and Maia Friedman (Bobby) began writing and making demos together in 2014. When Tom Deis (Via Audio) and Dan Drohan heard these recordings, they were inspired by the seed of a brilliant new band. The four veterans of the Brooklyn music scene felt a new and different sound come alive. After playing together as a full band only a handful of times, they went into the studio intending to record an EP and came out with a full length album, engineered and produced by D. James Goodwin (Devo, Yellowbirds, Landlady, Kaki King, Bob Weir), to be released in 2016. The album finds beauty in perfect doses of peace and chaos, and far exceeds the sum of its parts.
