August Labs

In its ongoing effort to expand its dedicated support system, National Sawdust also announces the launch of August Labs, open for emerging and established artists in the Brooklyn/Williamsburg area. The program offers an opportunity for local artists to spend 12-20 hours of time in their state-of-the-art venue developing new music-based works. Participants will receive one 4-hour session with composer and NS Creative and Artistic Director Paola Prestini. Works will be presented in a LAB showcase at the end of August and will be considered for NS’s annual Ferus Festival (January 2017). The program gives priority to new works or works-in-progress that meet the following criteria: • Musical works that explore cross-cultural collaborations • Musical works that explore interdisciplinary arts and sciences, including but not limited to architecture, film/video arts, literature, theatre and visual arts • Works that address issues relevant to our local community, including but not limited to socioeconomic, gender, and racial inequality.
